4 Page Letter - Returned

In May of 2016, I decided I was done! I had given my all to this relationship, fully committed and it still wasn’t good enough. The problem was, it was good enough for him but it wasn’t good enough for the people he kept in our business.

With Dre and I living on the same block and growing up in the same neighborhood everyone knew us from childhood to adulthood. Everyone knew we were complete opposites, but I honestly don’t think people could understand how we ended up together. It was none of their business! However, I am 5 years younger than Dre and at the time I really lacked the maturity to ignore the hearsay and gossip. So I would go on social media and lose it - everybody got cursed out. I’d go months and years without speaking to people that I had heard say things about me to him and it was just unhealthy.

But in 2016, I had matured enough to know that I wasn’t standing for it anymore. Dre would use his family and friends as his sounding board. Cool, but what wasn’t cool was that their opinions formed his perception of me and our relationship. And that’s exactly why I left. I left with no plans of looking back. I literally told him, if they think they know what’s best for you then go be with them and let me know how that goes. Dre is so stubborn that he agreed and he left. Almost with an “I'll show you” attitude.

No one could believe that both of us had taken such a hard stance against each other and that for months we cut off all communication. In order for us to talk, extreme measures would have to be taken. He couldn’t access my phone, social media, etc. and neither could his family or friends. I said I was done and I meant that.

One thing was constant - his communication with my mom. My mom loved Dre. They had built their own relationship despite me telling her how he didn’t have a mind of his own and was easily influenced by others opinions. One day, my mom and I went to the evening service at church and guess who was there - Dre! I felt like it was a setup, and even in church I looked at him like I didn’t know him.

Deep down, I knew I loved this man but what I didn’t know was how much he loved me. I knew all about how the people who loved him felt, but I didn’t know how he felt. That was always clouded by their opinions. So that summer was truly a Hot Girl Summer! I even made it well into the Fall, until November 27, 2016.

I arrived home from a nice weekend away and taped to my mailbox was an envelop that read, “BRIANA MACON”. I took it off and ran in the house to read it. I honestly had no clue who it could be from but I was curious. To my surprise, Dre had written me the most vulnerable, delicate, passionate, and transparent 4 page letter confessing his love for me. He made vows and promises in it that I had never heard before. Y’all, he promised me twin babies lol. He also promised to make me his wife!

I cried the entire time reading it. I called my best friend and then my mom so they could hear it too and each time I cried reading it to them. Then, I called him. I wanted him to come over because getting me back would take more than just a letter. I had a list of commitments I needed him to make. There were non-negotiables that I needed him to agree to. I was content with the fact that if he did not agree, we would remain apart.

He came over, we dissected the letter page by page. As I sat in my bed and he sat on my floor - we cried. I mean really really cried. We were authentic and vulnerable with one another for the first time and it felt good! My request were this:

1. Fix the broken relationship I had with his friends and family. I felt as though he caused them and it wasn’t my job to fix them.

2. Until #1 was done I’d never agree to marry him.

3. Keep everyone out of our business. No matter what!

4. Put me first, always and really what I wanted here was to feel prioritized.

Dre also had a list:

1. For me to stop expressing my frustrations towards him on social media.

2. Be patient with him as it relates to his career.

3. To never forget his promises to me.

4. Communicate more effectively. Basically, stop cursing him out.

We both agreed and I promise, it grew our relationship so much. For the first time it felt like we were finally playing for the same team with the same goals. Dre fulfilled his commitments and I did too. We still do! At that time, we had also committed to putting God first in our marriage. If we had problems, go to God. If we were in need, ask God.

A lot of the problems in our relationship came from involving everybody but God in our relationship. We were taking advice from single people who were no where near having a successful relationship. We were also taking advice from people who didn’t have a vested interest in the success of our relationship. It felt good getting past that hump. I honestly think the 6 months we spent apart were necessary for our personal growth. The commitments we made then remain in existence for our marriage.

It is true when people say, keep people out of your marriage. Nobody knows your relationship better than you and God. Seek guidance from your spiritual leaders. More importantly, talk to each other. Listen to understand one another, not listen to respond. There is so much healing in listening and communicating authentically and effectively.

Ohana means Family - ALOHA!

This vacation was so very special for me. First, I was able to take my mom to the beautiful island of O’ahu in Honolulu, Hawaii and my husband was also able to join us. In addition, my brother and sister-n-law flew in a day before us. Although all of our siblings were not able to make it, we made the best of this birthday trip for my mom (she's spoiled 😊). I visited Honolulu in April of 2021 and I knew they both needed to see and experience the most peaceful and beautiful island I’ve seen. Hawaii feels like an international vacation with American freedom. I am so glad it’s a US state and if I had the option I’d visit every year!

Cost:

Our flights were booked in October of 2021 when Southwest advertised a sale on flights to Hawaii. The total price of the flight was $325. Fortunately, D’Andre and I had flight credits available to cover the cost of ours. So grateful! I love Southwest for so many reasons and they are my preferred travel airline.

Thanks to a friend of mine, I was encouraged to apply for a Southwest Rapid Rewards credit card and I did! This card allows me to earn points on purchases. This year I’ve been able to book 3 round trip flight off my points alone! Southwest currently has a Limited-time offer with any Southwest Rapid Rewards personal Credit Card. Earn up to 100,000 bonus points with any Southwest Rapid Rewards personal Credit Card. Business owners can earn up to 80,000 bonus points with Southwest Rapid Rewards business Credit Cards. I can be rewarded too, learn more: https://www.referyourchasecard.com/226/6WXTP2FTDE

Hotel:

We used Travelzoo to book our hotel stay at White SandsHotel, but Expedia is just as good and commonly used by me! Travelzoo won this race simply because you have to pay resort fees at hotels in Hawaii, similar to those you pay at hotels in Vegas. The Travelzoo deal we received waived all resort fees! You all know by now that I love a good sale! This was good!

White Sands Hotel offered great nightly rates, a vintage walk-up with the personality of urban island culture, two and a half blocks from Waikiki beach, and steps to world-class shopping, dining, and nightlife. This was a perfect location to access everything! We literally walked everywhere, even to dinner. Every room at the White Sands Hotel features a private balcony with pool or city views. All rooms are nonsmoking and feature a 37-inch flat-screen LCD TV, a microwave and a small refrigerator. It also has an outdoor pool surrounded by a garden and is home to the most beautiful restaurant with the cutest cocktails. Although our resort fees were waived, we were able to access it’s inclusions and make use of their free pool deck amenities: chaise lounge covers, sunscreen, aloe, portable power bank, GoPro camera, beach gear including beach chairs and boogie boards, Wi-Fi and more.

Things to Do:

1. Each day the Sunrise and Sunset times are shown on a board at the front desk. Check out beach chairs and towels and spend at least one morning watching the sunrise. It is so beautiful and you’re joined by many on the beach as well so please, don’t be afraid to go out early. The sunset is just as beautiful and a great way to conclude your last evening in the city before dinner.

2. The North Shore and more: to avoid a day long tour by a tour guide whose stops are only 15-20 minutes each, you can rent a car on Turo for a day and drive around yourselves but you definitely want to start early. Here are the stops I suggest:

  1. Diamond Head Halona Blowhole lookout/ Scenic point
  2. Laniakea Beach - Turtle Beach
  3. Waimea Bay Beach Park
  4. Macadamia Nut Farm
  5. Fumi’s shrimp truck
  6. The Dole Plantation (closed on Wednesday)
  7. Matsumoto Shaved Ice

This will give you a full ride around the island. Download the Route4Me app and you can put in each location and it will arrange your route to make the drive efficient. This will allow you the ability to enjoy each stop at your own pace. Most spots close between 5:00-6:30pm which is why I suggest getting out early. We left around 1pm and was just making it for everything so leaving at 11am should be perfect.

3. Waikiki Beach: It’s so beautiful as mentioned before and feels like walking the Magnificent Mile in Chicago. So many shops and great places to dine. My recommendations are below:

  1. Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck – featured on Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives”
  2. ShoreFyre - Saturday & Sunday brunch in the International Marketplace. $5 Mimosas starting at 10am (Get the 50/50 Loco brunch dish it’s so fye!)
  3. Roys Waikiki for Dinner

You can walk to each of these from your hotel.

4. I’d also suggest going on Groupon to book a Luau. They are a beautiful experience, but the food isn’t the best (banquet food). I did it once and didn’t need to go again, but it is nice to experience and learn about the culture.

5. SHOP!!! All the luxury stores are cheaper and taxes are 4%. On Sundays the luxury stores have 10% off!

This trip not only gave me clarity, but joy! My mom basked in the peace and joy of Hawaii and even after a lengthy flight there and back, she can’t wait to return! As for Dre, which is most surprising, he too, cannot wait to return! We had the time of our lives!

2 is always more than 1

$2 is always more than $1

The title of this post came from an old boss. After my engagement she and I spoke often about the success of her marriage and the things that contributed to it. One of the biggest was how her and her husband managed their finances. Her counsel to me was, “Establish a joint account, combine your income and watch your marriage flourish.” Of course I was reluctant. I’ve never given anyone access or authority over my income. This for sure would be a challenge.

D’Andre and I discussed the idea of a joint account leading up to our wedding day and decided, at least for the first year, to remain separate and pay off all of our individual debt. Cool! Done! As 2021 approached we both knew it was time. No lie, the rush of emotions and anxiety I went through was indescribable. It was the first time in my life that I felt safe and secure enough to discuss and give someone else access to my finances. But I did, and I ain’t die doing it lol. No, for real, it’s been one of the best decision I’ve made for my marriage. We set seven (7) total Financial Goals for 2021 that I will detail below.

1. Save $50,000 this year and every year thereafter.

The first goal was set. Save $50,000 annually and every year thereafter. But how? You can’t just save $50K from nothing. You have to be able to afford to do so. This is where I give my advice: Our goal was $50K, yours doesn’t have to be! Everyone's financial situation is unique. Do what makes sense for you and your marriage. I said “Your Marriage” on purpose because listen, don’t ever do this shit while dating. I don’t care how much you love them and see a future with them. Even in a marriage this could go left, but it goes back to trust and security in your partner. Partner as in husband or wife, again…not your boyfriend or girlfriend.

 2. Live off one (1) income.

 3. Spend smart, who you stunting for?

Alright, on to the how. Our “how” was established in Goal #2: Live off 1 income. This is a challenge in itself, but it’s doable. Dre was not convinced of this at all. How the hell would we live off one income? The only way I made sense of it was by replaying when we moved to our first apartment. We paid more in rent than we do mortgage now, we had 2 car notes, no properties for extra income and we both made 1/2 of what we do now! That’s how! We tend to spend more money the more we make. Like every human has done this. It’s normal, but discipline can put an end to this. It made sense to him once I broke it down that way and he was game. That is exactly how Goal #3 was established. In order for us to successfully live off of one income and save $50K it wasn’t an option - we HAD TO spend smart, cut out out unnecessary spending and commit to this plan.

4. Open Joint Account

The next goals became actionable items to maintaining and achieving the first 3. Goal #4: Open a Joint Account. Now this method was also given to me by my old manager, but was slightly modified to fit our goals. We both already had individual checking and saving accounts. With opening the joint checking account, one income would be deposited to that account. I know I know, you want to know about the other income. I’m coming, hold on.

After establishing the joint account we had to review our bills. You need to be certain that the one income can cover all of the bills and leave extra for an allowance. We wrote out every bill, totaled it, and then subtracted that amount from the monthly total income. The remainder is what we had to work from when establishing an allowance.

         Example

Monthly Income: $500
Total bills: $300

$500 - $300 = $200 (This is what you have left to split for allowance. Each of you could get a max of $100 allowance monthly)

Next, we needed to determine an individual allowance. This is based on our individual monthly spend on ourselves. Not bills! All bills, mortgages, car notes, etc. would be paid out of the joint account. The allowances were for hair salon visits, nail salon visits, brunch, lunch money, waxes, etc. all the other “stuff”. We decided that in fairness we would get the same amount of money in allowance bi-weekly. Although I just really feel like because he cuts his own bald head I should get that extra, but I let him have it lol. Once the allowance was set, the direct deposit was set up. On payday, each of our individual accounts would get a deposit with our allowance amount and the full remaining balance would go in the joint account to cover the bills.

5. Automate Bills

This is where we then hit Goal #5: Automate Bills. You just wrote out your bills, tallied them up, etc. so you know your incoming and your outgoing - why not forget the hassle of logging in to pay your bills monthly. Save yourself the stress and headache and automate. This legit has been a contributor to my self care. Oh, I don’t have to remember a password to 5 different log ins to hit "pay now"? Aw girl we cooking with gas now!

We then setup an online savings account for the other income. The online account benefit was that it wasn’t easily accessible. There’s more but that was the biggest for me. We decided on Discover Bank. Reason being is because I met an older guy at work who would come in daily and give me updates on the interest rates for different savings accounts, but he held all his money in Discover. At the time, Discover had the highest yielding interest rate, known as APY (Annual Percentage Yield) for a savings account. As you know, interest rates fluctuate. I’ve seen Discover be at 1.10% and now it’s sitting at 0.40%. This is due to the pandemic which is cool. It beats 0.01% that most of the other “big” banks give on their savings accounts. Below is a chart comparing some other online savings accounts. As you can see, some accounts require monthly fees and have minimum opening deposit amounts. Go with what works for you!

6. Practice not checking the checking account (you know your spend).

The last 2 goals were simply reminders. As for Goal #6, I never check my bank account, but Dre never misses checking his. If you know you have $100 to spend monthly and your nails were just $50, what are you going to see? But honestly, I’m eliminating this one in 2022. Not checking my account has led to me missing all kinds of extra charges or fraud charges. I was wrong! Check your account. The scammers are scammin’ and the math ain't always mathin’.

7. Extra is savings. Can be used for trips or random spend, but with permission from partner.

The last Goal, #7, gives many people anxiety. Extra can be used with permission? Yes, out of respect for your partner if you need to overspend or dip into whatever is left in the joint account your partner should know and agree upon it. My old manager told me she struggled with not spending all of her allowance/over spending when they began and when she went to ask her husband to pull from the extra, he said no! Instead, he would give her some of his allowance! Look at LOVE 😍

That’s all this boils down to, LOVE! 🖤 Black Love is beautiful and powerful when you have 2 willing and able individuals committed to a common goal. This financial plan will also allow us to achieve an even bigger goal we have! It’s our 5 year plan and once we achieve it, I’ll be back to update you all.

I just want to thank each and every one of you for reading this, for encouraging me to write/talk about this and for simply having an interest in the things I talk about. I don’t always know how many people I reach, but it’s reminders like this one below that let me know I can’t stop! I literally told my friend about this plan over dinner very briefly and I’m excited to see how it shifts her marriage spiritually and positively. Remember, $2 will always be more than $1! 🌹

Pillars of Black Love

While attending premarital counseling our Pastor asked us to write a mission statement for our marriage. Neither of us knew where to start. However, once the ink from the pen hit the paper I just couldn’t stop writing! It literally felt like God placed His hand over mine and traced these words for us……..

We, D’Andre and Briana, commit to serve the Lord in our marriage by our display of faith, love, family and commitment to one another.

We commit to attending church together twice a month to fellowship in the house of the Lord. We will set aside one hour a week to talk about our goals and our future together. Lastly, we will set aside 1 day a week for date night.

In order to bridge our communication gaps, we will set aside ten minutes out of every day just to listen to each others feelings or needs. We will honor Christ in how we speak to each other, even and especially in times of conflict. We will seek to build each other up and not use words to tear each other down. We will listen to learn of each other’s feelings, not listen to win an argument. (1 Corinthians 13)

We understand that God gave us different roles to play in our marriage, and each of our individual strengths serve to create a strong marriage. D’Andre brings leadership, protection, sacrifice, and provision. Briana brings intelligence, influence, humility, and humor. The Lord is the third strand in this marriage, and He is our head, our strength, and our redeemer. Together, with the Lord we are powerful, wise and merciful.

As we walk this life together, we hope to be pillars of black love and strength to our family, friends and community.

With grace and love and faith we desire to create a marriage that glorifies the Lord.

I just have to repeat my favorite part, "As we walk this life together, we hope to be pillars of black love and strength to our family, friends and community". Because listen! I know there is a need in the black community to have visual images of black love. I know there is a need in black households to have examples of healthy black families. Most importantly, I know there is a need in the black community for LOVE! I spent this year being vulnerable to an audience of people who may not even care, but I do and I know what our communities need. I don’t care who gets bothered by our show of love or who thinks I’m “doing too much”. Truth is….I feel obligated to! We are on assignment to be PILLARS of BLACK LOVE and I’m going to keep giving it to you!

UNAPOLOGETIC BLACK LOVE!

Fashion is a Universal Language

 ❤ Never miss a #BryantLove Monday ❤

This post is not to brag or boast. I promise I have a point. No exaggeration, almost every woman at the resort walked up to me whether it was at dinner or at the pool/beach to compliment my attire. My first question after saying thank you to each of them was, "Where are you from"? I met women from all across the US to Romania and Ukraine. I shared with each of them websites and links to stores in their hometowns where they can shop similar looks! What I learned is that fashion is a universal language. It brings women and men alike together in unity to celebrate its beauty! I’ve worn each of these outfits more than once but what changed is things like my hair and the scenery. Women who don’t believe in wearing an outfit more than once will always be poor! Hear me and hear me good! The rich don’t stay rich by buying clothes and shoes every day. The rich also never “look” rich to the naked eye! But anyway, the best part was the fact that my husband basked in it all! He loves when people compliment me and He doesn’t restrict my wardrobe! My mom didn’t raise me to conceal my cleavage and in fact, when I attempted to she sat me down to explain the importance of embracing it! I show my skin in my looks because it adds to the look! I am and will never be a quiet girl, so why be quiet in my choice of clothing? I love that Dre takes all my pics, kneels to catch the right angle, and coaches me through my poses! This man is my biggest cheerleader and I thank God that my husband is not a jealous man. He is confident and at the end of the day HE TRUSTS ME! I dress up, put on makeup, and look good to FEEL GOOD! Fashion is my happy place! I hope you all find and embrace all the things in life that make you happy one day! 🌻

Time together and time apart

 🖤 Never miss a #BryantLove Monday 🖤

Gone for a minute now we’re back with the jump off! 😉 Closing out this months vacation TOGETHER! I vacation once a month because it’s self care for me, but Dre could care less. And that’s why I love him! He doesn’t restrict me to vacationing or doing the things I love with just him. He knows just how much I need a good vacation for my own mental health. He doesn’t require my dependence on him to have fun! Having a partner who gets this is an absolute blessing! Allow your partner the ability to live and enjoy life independent of you, but also plan time to enjoy life with one another as well! I always tell Dre that if I leave this world before him I pray he doesn’t drown in sorrow, but my wish is that he goes and finds love, again! Because with a heart like his, he deserves to always be happy and always feel loved. Love you and thank you Mr. B🥰

10 year COVID ANNIVERSARY

Through sickness and in health….what an Anniversary! Just as we did last year, we had plans for a beautiful vacation to celebrate our Anniversary. Then, the Delta Variant. It hit like a ton of bricks! I was COVID POSITIVE. Now what I’m going to share will be new for everyone, including my family.

I cried like a baby when I got the result. It wasn’t because I had it, it wasn’t because I couldn’t attend this vacation, and it wasn’t because of everything else I’d be missing. It was because I was ok with dying but what I wasn’t ok with is being the cause of anyone else dying. I had just seen my mom the day before and my nephew the day before that. No way in hell I’d be able to live if something were to happen to those 2.

But God…this vaccination is truly my saving GRACE. What could have been a death sentence and every symptom/hospital admission that comes with it is merely feeling like a bad sinus infection. Through my encouragement and documentation of my vaccination journey my mom, my husband and my nephew are fully vaccinated and doing well. I don’t take credit for Gods work, He used me as a vessel…this is HIS MERCY. HIS GOODNESS & MERCY!

I’m on the road to recovery and this short clip depicts my marriage to the fullest. This man will not leave my side. I’ve been needy, a b!tch, a brat, and delusional all in one but he loves me anyhow.

Tomorrow as we celebrate our 10 year Anniversary (2 year wedding), I am reminded of why we’ve chosen each other over and over again and why everyday we make an intentional effort to keep choosing each other! I love you baby like I’ve never loved before, every new day! 😘

P.S. Wear your mask. Not for yourself but for everyone else. We have to start playing defense with this virus. ❤ You can also schedule your free flu shot or vaccination shot HERE.

Our Story

D’Andre and Briana met on the block their parents stayed on, Maplewood. Briana crushed on Bubba, D’Andre’s family name, the moment he moved back from the Navy. Their first date was at Briana’s favorite chicken spot, Hooters! Bubba went with Briana in celebration for her and a friends birthday. They went on to date for an entire year before making things “official”. On August 17, 2011, Briana called Bubba and said, “Ok, what are we doing? Cause I’m not trying to be single forever.” Bubba responded, “I guess we’re in a relationship.” Briana responded, “Ok, today is our “official” Anniversary. So don’t forget it.” Needless to say, he NEVER forgot it. From that day, Bubba has been the best man Briana has ever encountered. Life for them ain’t been no crystal stair. For the past 7 years both Bubba and Briana grew up together. Both establishing themselves as individuals and then as companions. One thing they both understood is when the road gets hard, go straight to God. D’Andre and Briana have never been the “holiest” couple per say, but they are well aware of their Source. They know and believe that life for them would not be what it is today without God. Over the course of their relationship Briana had always said she wanted a huge proposal in front of all of her family and friends. D’Andre doesn’t like crowds or being in the spotlight. This is a trait that Briana admires about him. The couple had come to find so much peace in their relationship the more they kept things to themselves. Well, on May 14, 2018, D’Andre asked Briana to marry him. They were doing their vacation ritual, their final beach walk. Every year they went on vacation and the destination had to have a beach. On the final day/night before returning home D’Andre and Briana would walk the beach and reflect on the vacation, things they got out of it, how every year was better than the last, and lastly carve their names in the sand. As they do, they began to walk the beach of Punta Cana, DR hand in hand. Both reflecting on the vacation. Briana made D’Andre take at least 20 pics of her and still never got the shot she liked. They continued down further and D’Andre began to say, “This has been our best vacation so far.” Briana agreed and said, “We literally always say that.” D’Andre responded saying, “And this will be the most memorable one too.” He turned Briana around as he got on one knee and said, “Baby, you know I love you and you know how we rockin’. There’s no need for a long speech, Will you marry me?” Briana balled like a freaking baby. Crying like she just got a whooping and through all that she peeped that ring, looked D’Andre in his eyes and said “yeassssss” lol. They couldn’t wait to get back to their room to tell all of their family and friends. The excitement was so real that they forgot to carve their names in the sand, even after going back to the beach again just to do it. Briana is a strong believer in the number 7, Gods number, the number of Devine Completion. D’Andre couldn’t have picked a better year, their 7th year, to make them complete. The two decided their wedding day would be their 8th year Anniversary and they pray they see 70 plus years together 🖤

I told him, "Please don't die over the neighborhood that your mama renting

Take your money and buy the neighborhood

S/O to the dopest realtor Patrick P. Teague The Realtor of Park Place Realty Group LLC ! I was skeptical about the market right now but this here was smoother than a baby’s bottom. For my husband to experience his first home buying process this way is truly a blessing!
So proud of my husband 🥰 He is literally breaking generational curses and creating generational wealth at the same damn time ❤️ When I said he’s straight with or without me….I meant that‼️
Last year on July 28th I accepted a job offer for my current role and couldn’t have been happier! This year on July 28th we closed on building #2 and it’s a blessing! God whatever you do, don’t take your hands off of us🙌🏾 We are because You Are! Big thanks to the man upstairs 🙏🏾

By his side.....

I watched a video of a man explaining that when you submit to a man you play the background. The woman responded saying no, I stand beside my man. Then he asked, if an intruder enters your home, where will you stand? Still on the side? Now everyone knows I’m independent as ever! I’ve always struggled with this concept, but mainly because I’ve never dated anyone that I was willing to submit to until I met Dre (well maybe after 5 years, cause Lord knows). Anyway, I proudly stand behind my man. It’s an honor! I proudly submit to him. It’s an honor! Baby just know, if an intruder comes you secure the front and I’ll secure the back cause together we going to war

🤞🏾🖤🥰 #blacklove #blacklovematters #blacklovedoc #blackloveisreal

Prayed for 1, Blessed with 2!

Fun Fact: Dre is a twin. A fraternal twin. The man has a whole twin sister and for some reason he always leaves this fun fact out of conversations. Anyway, the topic of us having a baby has been on the rise, and we have been having a lot more conversations with our friends and family about it.
Ultimately, we don’t want kids right now. Dre has a son and we are totally satisfied with that. Our conversations boil down to this: We have had several conversations about our expectations of each other as parents and we just don’t meet each other’s expectations. Because of this, we’ve simply determined that it’s not in our best interest nor the best interest of our marriage to birth life. However, we do believe it’s the greatest blessing and encourage others to do so if they wish, but also, have this conversation! Know your partners expectations and be honest about whether or not you can meet them. Nothing is worse than going into something as big as having a baby not knowing the needs and expectations of your partner. That’s your Ace! You have to be on one accord and false expectations is what leads us off course.
P.S. This is our current disposition. We also gave ourselves 5 years from our wedding date for consideration. We discuss this annually, 2021 Dre & Bri may be different in 2024, we will see 🥰

Being equally yolked is more than money!

Dre went on a guys trip. First one in the 10 years we’ve been together. He has never traveled without me. Before leaving he backed out at least 5 times, and he kept asking if I’ll miss him. He was experiencing full blown separation anxiety, and I realized that I’ve contributed to it in some ways.

Being equally yolked is more than money. I want him to learn to be independent of me, communicate outside of me, and in the event I leave before he does I want him to be able to live and love again without me! It is so important that men understand they need to be knowledgeable about everything and refrain from always allowing the woman to handle everything. He wears the pants, but I’ve always handled the business. I’m stepping back. We got work to do!

You won't always like them, but you love them any how....

This weekend I irritated the hell out of Dre. I told my friend about it and she asked, “What did you do?” and I responded, “Talked back”. Sometimes when he’s in a mood he just wants me to be quiet and at times I’m combative about it. There are many days that we just need individual solitude. I didn’t support his need of it this weekend and I apologized because it’s important. We aren’t perfect. Some days (as somewhat depicted in this image) I’m not even in the mood to kiss him because he’s probably gotten on my tenth nerve, but what I’ve learned is how to love him anyway. That is how I define unconditional love. Loving in spite of myself or my mood!
